What it Really Takes to Do a System Relocation

System relocations probably don’t seem like a big deal. Anyone would probably tell you they could do it, and maybe for a “great” price at that.

But do they really know what they’re doing? They might not! A lot goes into a system move. Here are all the things that need to happen for a system relocation to run smoothly:

  • The camera obviously needs to be identified – are they familiar with it?
  • How far is the system moving? Within the facility? Across town? Across the state? Across the country?
  • What size room is the camera in now? What about where it’s going?
  • Are the doors wide enough in each room? Are the hallways wide enough? What kind of floor covering do they have?
  • Do we need to cover the floors to roll the system out and limit damage to the facility? What kind or route will the system be taking from the room? To a loading dock or through the front door? Are there any steps in the pathway?
  • Is there an elevator sufficiently large enough to handle the weight of the system? Is the elevator door big enough for the system? How deep is the elevator?

And that’s just the moving. You’ll also want to know:

  • When will the system be back up and running? Immediately? Hours? Days?
  • Can they guarantee the system will work as good as or better prior to the move?
  • Is this something they do on a regular basis? There’s only really one answer to this and it should be yes.

All of these aspects and more need to be taken into account when a camera is going to be moved and this is what we think about when we perform relocations for our customers. Contact us if you have questions about moving one of your systems.
