Our first post in the Above & Beyond series is about a challenging camera move and installation the team had earlier this summer in Mineola, NY.
This particular Universal field service team, led by Production & Quality Manger Kevin Borror, was tasked with un-installing a CorCam system from an outpatient facility, moving it to a hospital and then installing it. It probably sounds simple but there were some tricky logistics involved.
The outpatient facility required them to un-install the CorCam on Tuesday but the hospital was using the existing system – in the spot the CorCam would soon be in – through the morning of the next day. So the team came on Tuesday to get the CorCam ready to go and then returned Wednesday morning to load it on the truck… which was not easy.
The only place to park the truck was in an alley, so as to not disrupt the ambulances coming in and out of the facility. That made the transfer from facility to truck that much more difficult having to look out for vehicles as they maneuvered the system onto the truck.
When the team arrived at the hospital with the CorCam they were told some patients had been added to the scan schedule and now couldn’t begin removing the existing system until 1pm – still with a deadline to have the CorCam up and running in its place by that evening so it could be used the next morning!
In order to save time, the team figured out a way to remove the existing system and unload the CorCam simultaneously. Once the existing system was on the rigging and out of the way it was discovered that the floor needed to be cleaned in order to install the CorCam. The team worked together with the hospital personnel to get the floor cleaned as quickly as possible. Finally they were able to install the CorCam. Once installation was complete and the system ensured operational, the Universal team finished up at 10pm.
The customer was able to come in in the morning, perform a QC, and scan patients without having to reschedule or delay their day.
