Nuclear Medicine training requirements
The opinion over the proper training for nuclear medicine professionals in the USA has for decades been a West Coast vs. East Coast debate. With the addition of digital SPECT imaging, hybrid PET, PACS and a variety of technological advancements the question of defining nuclear medicine as a radiology service or one that is separate and provides a different set of information about patient health remains unresolved. How the nuclear medicine community addresses this question as technology blurs the distinction between the two disciplines will be critical to the long-term recognition of nuclear medicine as a unique imaging service.
