Service Essentials
It’s that time of year again, time to ask yourself a couple of key questions and decide if your SPECT nuclear imaging gear is ready for “thunder and lightning” season.
Question #1: Do I need a new or reconditioned uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can be configured to suit my unique needs?
Question #1-a…Or, have I been getting by with an aging UPS that could use an inspection and potential service?
If the answer to either of these is Yes or Maybe, it’s time to replace the batteries or the whole unit. A robust uninterruptible power supply can help your system “weather” the power surges, brownouts, fluctuations, and excessive ripple events that can disrupt operations, damage electronics, and corrupt software files.
Power conditioning—a UPS absorbs spikes & fills in voltage sags on the incoming AC power to ensure better performance and longer life of the entire system.
A properly sized UPS for your facility Is based upon make and model of your SPECT system. Your UPS should be adequate to provide time to finish the current scan and proceed with an orderly shutdown.
Something to take note of– Battery life is approximately 3 years under normal usage and operating conditions. UPS units should never be used for continuous operation.
Question #2: If a power event causes a hard drive crash and my system goes down for days or weeks, have I backed up patient data to an external archive solution?
Back-ups are paramount. Follow HIPAA & HITECH guidelines for patient data storage. And remember, catastrophic hard drive failure issues can be mitigated using a special system archive solution called Critical Product Recovery (CPR) to save acquisition protocols, DICOM configuration, processing applications, display defaults, corrections and calibrations for gantry and detector, and more. We are experts at CPR and can answer any questions you might have about it.
