North Star expands Production of non-uranium based Mo-99 for Tc-99m generators.
North Star Medical Radioisotopes announced an expansion of its collaboration with Ion Beam Applications (IBA) to increase the availability of non-uranium-based Mo-99. In this expanded partnership, IBA will supply up to 8-of its electron beam accelerators to North Star expanding the use of North Star’s technology here and outside of the United States. As demand for nuclear medicine procedures continue to expand globally, the need for increased Tc-99m generator production capacity is critical for serving the expansion of nuclear medicine around the world. New SPECT Technique Proven to Distinguish Dementia with Lewy Bodies from Alzheimer’s Disease
Lisbon researchers acquired imaging data from patients from 1996-1999 and followed them until their deaths. Utilizing (I-123) FP-CIT SPECT imaging they demonstrated an ability to differentiate dementia from Lewy bodies from Alzheimer’s. These results were confirmed upon autopsy. The authors said for the first time they were able to demonstrate that this compound not only separated dementia from Alzheimer’s but from Parkinson’s too. Read more.
