Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Nuclear Medicine imaging technology is marching forward at a record pace. The cost of acquisition and ongoing maintenance for these new devices can be an order of magnitude more expensive their the less advanced systems, now just a few years old. Justifying these changes in technology and their dramatically increased costs can only be done by evaluating the quantitative effect on patient differential diagnosis. This article looks at one large application area for Nuclear Medicine imaging and finds that all new technology may not be worth the associated 10 fold increase in cost associated with the acquisition and operation.
