SNMMI, ACNM oppose relaxing radiopharmaceutical user rules

It seems ironic after all the imaging community has done to reduce radiation exposure that the U.S. NRC is now considering loosening the rules for those who can use and administer radiopharmaceuticals.

The investigation is focused on broadening available diagnostic imaging and therapy for patients in underserved areas. Will this be followed by allowing those without sufficient training to perform surgical procedures on those in underserved areas? Universal joins the SNMMI and the ACNM in its opposition to any relaxing of the rules for those responsible for handling and administering radiopharmaceuticals.
